Astigmatism contacts?

I want to get contacts, and tried them a while ago. But my left eye has an astigmatism and they just feel weird. It;s like the contacts are just feeling weird, but my right eye is normal and is okay and the contacts feel fine.

Are their contacts made for astigmatism? Or will I have to man up and live with the feeling?
All of these are great answers, so I can’t pick a best answer. but thanks you guys, i feel better bout contacts now!

Yes, there are contacts for astigmatism. They are called Toric lenses. Since you only have astigmatism in the left eye, you can wear a Toric lens in that eye and a regular lens in the right eye since it doesn’t have astigmatism. Lots of people do this because not everyone has astigmatism in both eyes. Toric lenses do however, take some getting used to. Usually the weird feeling will go away and you won’t notice it anymore after awhile but, some people say that they just “get used to them feeling a little funny.” It really just depends on the person and how much he/she can tolerate. Some can deal with the “weird” feeling of the contacts, some can’t.

Toric lenses are made for astigmatic patients, and those have been on the market for quite a while. Discuss it with your optometrist.

    yes, plenty.

a lot of people with astigmatism in one eye only have interesting problems in contact lenses. comfort issues, fitting problems, vision problems. sometimes these patients need an optometrist who is willing to think a little outside the box (different sizes R & L for example)

Contacts will normally correct for a little bit of astigmatism ( I have it and contacts myself). Check with your eye care professional. It may be that the shape they chose is not quite right. I went through several at first to get the best fit.
