No, this is mostly definitely NOT illegal. As long as you have a valid prescription, it is perfectly fine.

He is obviously scared of losing a sale.

i think he said that because he wants you to spend your money at his office. you can buy contacts, so why not glasses? they only thing they want is a current prescription.

He doesnt want you to do that because he loses money. Its not the same as buying meds online.

I have to agree, it is rather stupid. There are many things that you don’t even know to input that can affect your RX.
PD. do you know that you get better results from a monocular pd? especially with higher powers and progressives. Actually, don’t EVER but a progressive online. you need to see a professional. Go to your favorite optical and see the LICENSED optician if you need progressives. theyre hard to fit and harder to use if not fit properly.

i wouldnt think so…..i mean idk but it shouldnt be. Its not like your buying prescription drugs or something

it’s not illegal for you to attempt to buy prescription contacts on-line. i’d imagine it’s the same for glasses. my prescription had expired but my vision has barely changed in the last 5 years. i submitted an order to 1-800-contacts and they filled it. they do try to contact your optometrist, but if there’s no response they fill the order. sounds like your optometrist want you to spend your money with him, but it’s usually a lot cheaper to buy on-line or from a large chain store. get the exam for the optometrist, but buy the lenses or glasses from the cheapest source.

Not illegal as long as you have a valid RX. RXs only are valid for 2 years…you can take it anywhere in the US and have it filled. Your choice.

The optician at Hakim Optical wouldn’t check to see if my prescription was right since I bought my glasses online and she said that was illegal even though I was willing to pay her…

lenscrafters had no problem and didn’t even charge me :P

Buying glasses online isn’t illegal in most places in the US…but it is plain dumb anyway.

It’s amazing how few people realize the importance of quality lenses and a good fitting frame.

You know what? You’re eye doctor is full of beans. He doesn’t want you to buy glasses from anyone but him. Ever heard of 1-800-CONTACTS? It’s exactly the same thing.

    It’s perfectly legal!!
